Casting Update: Malcolm McDowell Heads to Greendale

Malcolm McDowell has been cast to play Professor Cornwallis in a couple of episodes of Community:

Malcolm McDowell is poised to make history, or at least teach it.

The Franklin & Bash actor has booked a guest-starring role on NBC’s cult favorite Community, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.

The actor, whose numerous TV credits include gigs on Entourage, Heroes and CSI: Miami, will check in to Greendale and play a history professor on the upcoming fourth season of the Sony Pictures Television comedy. He’s poised to appear in two episodes as Professor Cornwallis.

McDowell joins Little Britain’s Matt Lucas as having booked multiple-episode gigs on the series, which returns in its new 8:30 p.m. Friday time slot starting Oct. 19.

He’s repped by Markham, Froggatt and Irwin and CR Management.

Casting Update: Community Casts Matt Lucas in Season 4

Matt Lucas has been cast to star in the new season of Community.

In a move that should make Community fans a little less wary of the Dan Harmon-less Season 4, the show has cast British comedian Matt Lucas as Greendale’s newest faculty member.

Lucas will appear in multiple episodes as a history professor who used to teach at Oxford and whose commitment to academic rigor is a challenge to the community college’s learning environment, TVLine has learned exclusively. But as Ask Ausiello hinted a few weeks ago, the prof’s polished exterior may be hiding a trainwreck of a personal life.

Best known to American audiences as one of Kristen Wiig’s roommates in Bridesmaids, Lucas made a name for himself in the British sketch comedy series Little Britain. An American version of the show later aired on HBO.

Community‘s fourth season premieres Friday, Oct. 19.
